Finally the team enjoyed a full weekend of racing where Mother Nature didn't dampen one night. Also the team debuted a new car this past weekend and in its first race at Antigo it dominated by taking the heat win easily! In feature action Justin got moved up into the marbles and spun on lap 2, he went down pit lane to make sure there was no damage and rejoined the field as they were taking the green flag. After restarting in last and the field having a jump on him Justin charged through the field without the help of a caution flag and still brought home a 4th place finish!
Saturday Night the good run continued as Justin took 2nd in the heat and ran 2nd most of the feature only to have a caution flag come out and bunch the field back up. Trying to grab the top spot there was a slight slip up that cost Justin the 2nd position, as the checkered dropped Justin ended up 3rd. Still a great run for a car that has never seen a race track before this weekend!!
Also the new "Big Hirt" T-shirts are in and available at the trailer. They are white and have #27 on front and "The Big Hirt" along with picture of car on back. Stop by have and have it signed as they will be like Justin and going fast.
Coming up is the last weekend of weekly racing at both Antigo and Shawano. The weekend of Sept 10th and 11th the teams heads over to the Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay WI for rd1 of the FASTRAK Grand Nationals.
More top 5's rolling in! The weekend started off in Antigo Friday Night and heat race action had "bad draw" Justin of course start from the rear of the field, in the short 8 lap affair on the big 1/2 mile Justin worked his way up to 3rd and was on the bumper of the 2nd place driver as they crossed the checkered flag. Feature time had Justin roll of 6th and heavy battles waged all race long on the big track. In the final rundown Justin was scored in the 3rd position garnering another top 5 finish
Saturday Night was back to Shawano Speedway and wouldn't you know it the Big Hirt actually drew good for once and started on the pole of the heat. The track was bad fast and Justin had it hammer down all the way around and easily took home the heat race win. Feature time Justin once again started 6th and fought hard for every spot, the track developed a high cushion that proved to be tricky for everyone. Cars were bouncing around off of it and some were breaking parts. A small mistake and you would find yourself over the berm and dropping back fast. The problem was that the car just really didn't to bounce off the cushion and Justin working hard. In the end Justin came 4th with a slightly battered car but not too bad and another top 5 was racked up.
This week is 3 nights of racing as on Wed, Night the team heads to Central WI Raceway in Unity WI for the Kim Parsons Memorial $2,000 to win race. The Parsons were and are still very supportive of Justins racing career and we are honored to participate in this race that celebrates Kims life. This is a WDLMA style race so the big spoiler is on and the lead is off the FASTRAK car. Friday night it is back to regular weekly racing at Antigo than Shawano Saturday. Hope to see you all the track!
Listen to Justin on "Life in the FASTRAK", Justin talks about his racing career past present and future. Justins interview starts at 1hour and 30 minutes into the program. You can listen to it all or let it load up and fast forward to that point.
Justin on "Life in the FASTRAK"It was a weekend of remembrance and grieving for the #27 team as it headed into action. The remembrance was for Justins cousin Kayona who passed away 1 yr ago at a young age. The grieving was for family friend Larry Buss who passes away suddenly Saturday. God Bless each of these families as they cope with these difficult times. The #27 along with cousin Dan Wanta and Uncle Carl Christjohn all carried the black flag at the opening ceremonies to honor Kayla.
Heat race action saw Justin dart from the outside pole of the heat race on the super fast track and lead every lap en route to another heat race victory. Feature action saw intense battles up front early on as Justin was battling for the 3rd place position. With the track having a cushion it was follow the leader on the top side, Justin tried to gain spots by taking to the low line but the track just wasn't to the cars liking down there as Justin would slip back a little. Jumping back up to the top side Justin was able to reel in the 3rd and 4th place cars and be right on their bumpers, but once again passing was at a premium and there was no place for Justin to go and Justin crossed the finish line in the 5th position as the checkers flew.
Friday Night action at the Langlade Speedway was canceled due to standing water on the track yet from this weeks heavy rains. Fingers crossed that next week we will once again get 2 nights of racing in.
Racing becomes a mute point in the grand scheme of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the Buss family along with continued love and thoughts of Kayona.
A fairly tough weekend for the #27 team once again, but once again fought through adversity and came away with respectable finishes/ Friday night in Antigo Justin placed 3rd in the heat ans battled up front for the win in the feature but a carburator stumble prevented the team from capturing the win but still finished in the 3rd position.
Saturday night the car ran great in heat race action and after starting 5th on the lightning quick surface Justin climbed into the 2nd position in the ultra quick 8 lap affair. Feature time would show more hardship for the #27 as the pole sitter slid up into Justin and Justin had to the hit the brakes to avoid major contact. With it being the opening lap the field was still tight and Justin was hit from the rear and sent into the turn 2 wall as other cars piled in. With heavy nose damage and a broken shock mount Justin made his way to pit lane and the Crue began working on the car. As the green flag dropped Justin rejoined the field still badly battered. Another caution on the restart allowed Justin to come back down pit lane to try and fix the damage a little more where his father Wayne grabbed the sledge hammer and began fixing the damage quickly. Once the green flag dropped Justin once again rejoined the field at the rear of the field. With an ill handling car due to the right rear shock being broken Justin was still able to come through the field and finish 7th once again overcoming adversity and posting a decent finish.
The same 2 night schedule is planned for next week, Antigo Friday and Shawano Saturday.
Uncle Justin!!! First and foremost before any racing talk the big news of the weekend is that Justin became an Uncle as sister Ali had a bouncing Baby Boy. At 9:45am Monday July 5th Dawson Edward entered the world. Both Mother and bay are doing great and Justin is happy to be an Uncle to young Dawson. Congrats Ali and welcome to the team Dawson!
As for the racing action this weekend, it was double trouble. Friday night heat race action at Langlade County Speedway saw Justin make about a half a lap before the brand new ALLSTAR fuel pump would fail. Justin went to the parts trailer and purchased a new and the car was ready for Feature action. Starting last on the field due to the heat race DNF Justin had a long road ahead of him. Through hard driving and determination Justin fought tooth and nail through the pack and came across in 4th position at the checkered flags.
Saturday Night at the Shawano Speedway seemed as if it were Groundhogs Day. Once again in the heat race another ALLSTAR fuel pump quit working after half a lap into the Heat race. The team replaced the pump with a spare from the trailer and once again would see there feature race start from the tail of the field due to the DNF. This time moving forward would be much tougher as the FASTRAK division was the last class on the dry slick track that was beginning to take rubber on the bottom. Once again Justin would fight tooth and nail throughout the field and came home 6th at the end.
Not the best weekend, but considering starting at the tail of the field both nights and getting a 4th and a 6th place finish, not hurting any equipment, the team will take those finishes and come back strong next weekend as they return to both Langlade Speedway and Shawano Speedway.
Finally a full weekend of racing is in the books as Mother Nature gave us a scare, but just skated by and allowed us to race. Kicking the weekend off the team traveled to the Langlade County Speedway in Antigo on Friday night. This was the first time in a couple weeks the track has been open due to constant rains. Heat race action Justin took 2nd and in the feature he led many laps but with 1 lap to go the rough track threw the #27 momentum off and Justin dropped to the 2nd position.
Saturday Night the team returned to the Shawano Speedway where the heat race would not go as planned. Rolling off from the 5th position in a stacked heat Justin knew he had to make his move early. As the cars entered turn 1 Justin dove underneath another competitor only to have the hole close in on him, This forced the #27 to take the extreme low line and Justin clipped a tire which folded the nose the under and ended his heat race early resulting a DNF.
With a DNF in the heat race Justin would start shotgun on the field from the 16th position. A major pileup on lap 1 would prove that maybe the heat race was possibly a blessing in disguise as the accident took place right around the area where Justin would have started if he made the invert. Once the track was cleared and the green flag dropped, Justin began working his way further towards the front and soon was in the top 5. At the midway point of the race another caution flew bunching up the field and giving Justin a shot at the leader. On the restart Justin once again began the assault forward and grabbed the 2nd position. Justin continued to try and run down the leader, but time was not on Justins side and as the checkered flag flew Justin settled for a 2nd place finish after starting 16th a +14 on the night.
Next weekend the team looks to improve their feature finishing spots by 1 at both tracks, Langlade Speedway Friday Night and Shawano Speedway Saturday Night as we all look forward to the holiday weekend. Happy 4th of July everyone and hope to see you all at the track!
Three full nights of racing equal mixed results. First off it was the Langlade County Speedway on Friday night where Justin would grab another heat race win in strong fashion. In the feature Justin started 4th and quickly jumped into the 2nd position and began his hunt for the lead. A little bit of misfortune would happen as Justin would send the #27 into the spin cycle as he was making a move for the lead. Justin was able to avoid hitting anything and continue on, however something didn't feel right in the steering and Justin pulled it in and drove it to the trailer ending his night. It was later determined a part failure on the steering rack is what Justin felt and really saved a potentially really bad evening.
Saturday the team traveled back to the Shawano Speedway and the night saw Justin roll off for the heat race from the 5th position. In the short 8 lap affair Justin diced his way through the field and cashed in a 2nd place finish as time ran out to run down the leader. Feature action Justin lined up in the 4th position. A jagged start from the front row shuffled Justin back in the order early on. Justin battled back as the laps clicked away in the caution free event and grabbed the 4th position just past the halfway mark. With the track beginning to lock down Justin maintained the 4th position and reeled in the 3rd place runner, but was unable to get close enough to make the pass and brought home another top 5.
Monday the team traveled West to the Eagle Valley Speedway. Justin once again dominated heat race action and collected another heat race win. The event was a draw event and Justins wonderful history for drawing position once again repeated itself as he started as far back as he could, 8th. With 30 laps on the high banked track Justin knew he had time to make it to the front and that is just what he did. With only 1 caution flag flying in the event Justin had to drive his way to the front without the assistance of caution bunching the field. He proved to be up to the challenge and came home with a strong 2nd place showing, only falling one spot short of the win which was won from the pole position.
This coming Friday night June 4th there is no racing at the Langlade County Speedway as they are hosting Off Road Racing and will not be running any Stock car races as they utilize part of the racetrack for that event. So the teams next race will Saturday June 5th at the Shawano Speedway.
Busy summer weekends have started as the FASTRAK division has returned to Langlade County Speedway Weekly on Friday Nights and continues Saturday nights at Shawano Speedway. Friday night Justin lined up on the front row of the heat and checked out at the start never looking back and captured the heat race win. Looking for the Clean Sweep Justin Rolled off 3rd in the feature line up. On lap 2 another driver spun directly in front of Justin and Justin was collected in the incident. The #27 crew sprang into action as Justin reached pit road and replaced the flat tire received and cleared the body damage. Justin joined the field at the tail and was a man on a mission. Dicing his way through traffic Justin was all the back up to the 3rd position, but with no more cautions and the leaders having clear track Justin had to settle for the 3rd position on the big 1/2 mile.
Saturday night the team headed back to the Shawano Speedway where the FASTRAK division was the first division out. After receiving rains Friday the track was holding moisture well and Justin started on the outside pole of the heat race. Wide open into turn #1 with only a burp of the throttle and the #27 was out front alone on the ultra fast track. A caution midway through the race bunched the field back up. but Justin was too strong for everyone and once again took the heat race win for the 2nd night in a row and gave him a shot at another clean sweep. Rolling off from the 3rd position in the Feature the track didn't hold as much bite as the crew had anticipated. After a 1/2 hour red flag for fellow competitor Zach Drews on lap 2 it was back to racing action. With an ill handling car Justin fell back slightly to the 6th position at the beginning of the run, however as the laps continued Justin began reeling the 4th and 5th place cars. Soon Justin was in 5th and in the last 3 laps challenged side by side for the 4th position but wasn't able to make the pass and crossed the line in the 5th position.
All in all a good weekend, 2 heat wins and 3rd and 5th placing in Feature racing action. Memorial Day weekend will mark 3 nights of racing as the team hits Langlade County Speedway Friday night, Shawano Speedway Saturday night and Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls WI on Monday for a FASTRAK Great Lakes Touring event.
Finally after another week off due to Mother Nature the #27 team was back a the Speedway looking for another strong performance. Up first was the heat race where Justin lined up in the 5th starting position. Justin began picking off the cars one at time and at the halfway mark of the 8 lap affair he was running in the 2nd position. With only 8 laps and no cautions Justin was running the leader down but ran out of time and crossed the line in the 2nd position.
Feature time rolled around and Justin lined up in the 3rd position for the 20 lap tussle. A few cautions early on would keep the field bunched up but once the racing got under way it was a tough battle. Justin would continue to stay in the top 5 throughout the race but just didn't quite have enough to pressure for the win this week. So the team took home a top 5 finish and started doing their homework for the week ahead as this Friday May 21st Langlade Speedway opens up their season as the 2 night a week assault on summer begins.
After a week off due to rain the team was ready to redeem themselves from the opening week showing. In heat race action Justin started from the 5th position in the 8 lap affair. Justin quickly jumped into the top 4 in the first lap and set his sights on the leader. By lap 3 Justin was in the 2nd position and was tracking down the leader. Several caution flags appeared during this heat race and due to time constraints the event was cut short before Justin could have a shot at the lead and had to settle for 2nd position.
Feature time came about and it was the #27 starting from pole position. At the drop of the green flag Justin hustled into turn 1 and overtook the lead and began to pull away from the field. Caution flags would wave a few times throughout the event and put the field on the #27 bumper. An epic battle was had with AJ Diemel as he and Justin would race side by side, door handle to handle for several laps putting on one exciting show for everyone. With a perfect line Justin maintained the lead throughout the event and led flag to flag to capture his first feature win of the new season.
Thanks to everyone for your support and stopping by after the races if you were able to. Next week we will be back at the Shawano Speedway looking to make it 2 in a row.
Well opening night is in the books and it is one that can be soon forgotten for the #27 team. The evening started with the FASTRAK Division being the first cars to to hit the track to kick off the the new year, once again Justin picked up where he left off last year by drawing #96 for starting position in the heat race. This draw would have Justin start 6th in the heat race. The inside row was able to get going and sped away as Justin tried picking cars off running the high side. With 4 laps in Justin was up to the 3rd position and hunting down the leaders. Justin caught the lead pack as the checkered flag flew with the top 3 nose to tail at the line. The race just wasn't long enough to recover from the deep starting spot and Justin finished 3rd making the re-draw to determine Feature starting position.
Feature time is where the night turned ugly. The #27 would roll off the grid in the 4th position. As the cars entered turn 1 it quickly became a 3 wide battle for 2nd but it couldn't last as contact was made and Justin was sent into the spin cycle in front of a charging pack. Facing the wrong way at the end of the spin Justin was clipped on the front end and damaged too much stuff to be able to continue the Feature race and was credited with a DNF. Despite the result the team was upbeat and took it in stride as things happen in racing and they will get them next week as the team will be back in action at the Shawano Speedway next Saturday night.
The anticipation is building as another year of racing is mere hours away from beginning! Soon the hauler will be loaded and the team will be trecking down the road gunning for wins. The bright lights, the checkered flags, the roar of the engines, the screaming fans and particles of dirt will be flying through the air beginning this weekend as the team heads to the Shawano Speedway for the season opener. Friday night is inspection and practice night which begins at 6:00pm CST , Saturday is what everyone is waiting for, Opening night with racing starting at 6pm CST. Come out and cheer on the #27 team and stop down in the pits after the races to say Hi as we welcome all our fan. Now LETS GET RACING!!!!
Progress is coming along nicely in the #27 shop. The FASTRAK Car is ready for vinyl while the other Late model is getting closer to completion also. Both cars go to Victory Vinyl at the end of the 3-26-10 weekend to get lettered so there is still some work to do, but the crew has been working daily and things are shaping up nicely. Pictures of the progress can be found in the Photo Gallery section.
Justin is not only busy this weekend working on cars, but he is participating in another passion of his and that is hunting. This weekend Justin meets the young hunter who he is going to mentor for the upcoming Youth Turkey hunt sponsored by the Waupaca County Longbeards. If Justin isn't racing he is hunting and mentoring a young hunter into the life of Conservation is a way to give back to the same people who helped guide him in the right direction.
More pictures will be added to the site as the other gets completed and also once the cars get from lettering. One thing that will stay the same is the well known bright orange #27.
Also our thoughts and Prayers continue to be with the Luepke Family as young Reed continues his fight against Leukemia. Reed is a true Hero in all of our eyes as he and his Family look to defeat this disease.
The first race of the year is in the books for Justin, well kinda anyways. Saturday Jan 30th Tilleda Thunder on Ice Hosted a Dirt vs Asphalt drivers in the rear wheel drive non-studded division as part of Reed Luepke Day on the Ice. Justin took the iced oval in a Michonski Racing prepared car. Just as luck would have it in the summer Justin would start this race from the back of the pack. A different kind of slick track proved to be a little too much for some of the drivers as they tried to master their throttle control, and Justin was no exception from this. After moving forward through the pack and challenging for 4th position Justin found himself in the spin cycle. An attempt to rally back was again thwarted as on the last lap another oops had Justin slide back a little further in the pack. All in all the drivers had a blast and Justin was happy to be part of this great day Honoring one of our little fans. After the race Justin attended the Benefit for Reed where he donated a Die Cast car, T-shirt and hats to be silent auctioned off.
In the shop things are picking up as the race season is only 2 months away. Parts are being taken off, cleaned and inspected before the car gets reassembled. A schedule should be coming out soon, the team is just waiting for a few tracks and series to release their final schedules, than the team will look at all it's options and make up the schedule for the summers actions.
Coming up on Feb 20th is the Justin Hirt Motorsports Appreciation Party. This is an event to Thank all of our fans, sponsors and crew for making it possible for us to race. Without any of these people what we do would not be possible. Also this a great way to get rid of cabin fever and start looking ahead to the 2010 racing season. The event will be held at Herbs Tigerton Lanes in Tigerton with Live music provided by the Mike and Brian experience. We hope to see you all there.
Remember to start checking back often as the racing season is approaching fast, as exclusive updates, photos and schedule will be added for you our fans.
